About Lucin

Established in the early 1900s as a railroad town along the Lucin Cutoff — one of the most important engineering achievements in western railroad history — Lucin is no longer an incorporated town and only a handful of residents remain in the surrounding area. The community continues to attract ranchers, historians, photographers, outdoor enthusiasts, rockhounds, hunters, and visitors exploring the Great Salt Lake Desert. Nearby attractions include the historic Lucin Railroad Grade and Cutoff Historic Corridor, the Great Salt Lake Desert, the Newfoundland and Hogup Mountains, and vast BLM lands for camping, OHV recreation, wildlife viewing, and dark-sky photography.

Why people move to Lucin

Buyers come to Lucin for ranch property, recreational land, hunting access, off-grid living, and long-term land investment in one of Utah's most remote landscapes. It is not suited to traditional suburban living but offers exceptional opportunities for those seeking privacy and open space.

Lucin homeownership snapshot

Lucin runs a very thin market dominated by acreage, ranch land, and recreational parcels rather than conventional housing. Values depend on acreage, legal access, water rights, improvements, and proximity to utilities. Owner-occupied homes that qualify may use USDA, VA, FHA, or conventional financing; raw land typically requires specialized land or seller financing.
