About Wendover
Together with West Wendover, the two communities form one of the most distinctive metropolitan areas in the western United States, combining Utah neighborhoods with Nevada's entertainment, hospitality, and tourism industries. Originally established as a railroad community, Wendover gained national recognition during World War II as the home of the Wendover Army Airfield, where crews trained for long-range bomber missions including the 509th Composite Group. Today Wendover is known for affordable housing, tourism and hospitality employment, historic aviation sites, the Bonneville Salt Flats, and strong military history. Nearby attractions include the Bonneville Salt Flats, Bonneville Speedway, Wendover Airfield Museum, Silver Island Mountains, Great Salt Lake Desert, Pilot Peak, and the historic Pony Express Trail.
